Printable ring sizer

Print this page at 100% (actual size) and you get two sizers on one sheet: true-size circles to lay a ring on, and a paper strip to wrap around a finger. The 1-inch square on the sheet tells you the printer kept the scale.

Choose the sizes, then print

17 circles, US 4 to 12

  1. Print at 100%In the print dialog, choose "Actual size" or scale 100%, not "Fit to page."
  2. Check the squareMeasure it with a ruler. If it is not 1 inch on each side, the sizes are off: print again.
  3. Circles or stripLay a ring on the circles, or cut out the strip and wrap it around the finger.

How the printable sizer works

Each circle is drawn at the inside diameter of its size, so a US 7 circle is 17.3 mm across. Lay a ring they wear on the circles: the circle whose line sits just inside the metal is the ring's size. If the ring falls between two circles, choose the larger one.

The strip is marked at each size's circumference, measured from the "Start" line. A US 7 mark sits 54.4 mm from the start, a US 10 mark 62.1 mm. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger and read the mark where the start line meets the strip.

On a phone or with no printer? The on-screen ring sizer does the same with a bank card for scale, and string and a ruler work too.

Questions

Why does my printed ring sizer look too small?

The printer probably scaled the page to fit. Print again with the scale at 100% or "Actual size," then check that the square measures 1 inch.

Is a paper ring sizer accurate?

To within about half a size when it prints at true scale and you read it carefully. Paper does not stretch, but a strip wrapped too loosely reads large, so pull it snug without squeezing.

Which should I use, the circles or the strip?

The circles, if you can borrow a ring they wear on the right finger: a ring is rigid, so it gives the steadier reading. The strip is for measuring a finger directly.

What if the ring is between two circles?

Choose the larger size. A ring that is a little loose can be worn while it is resized; one that is too tight cannot be put on.
